Sky Rocket Almost Ready To Launch

© Kennywood

A tentative launch date for Kennywood's new Sky Rocket roller coaster has been revealed. The park hopes to open the ride the week of June 21st, barring any unforeseen delays. This news article has some neat aerial footage of the completed ride as well.

Kennywood has also released photos of the trains for the ride, one of which is seen above. They really came through on the promise of having open feeling cars! Check out those photos at the park's Facebook.

I went to the site to see everything today. I spoke with the head of the project and he said that they got 5 proposals from, Gerstlauer, Maher Sohne, GCI, Chance Morgan and someone else I forget. He said Chance Morgan came up with a proposal for a suspended coaster. I found that pretty interesting.

A GCI!!! Drool. The ride they went with looks great, though! I'm sure the other companies had some wild proposals too... if only to see the drawings!
