New Fontaine Ferry Park Video Footage Surfaces

Remember that great story that Scott and Carol shared with us about the Fontaine Ferry Park exhibit at the Frazier International History Museum? Well it appears that the museum has received one additional item to add to the display.

Local producer Jerry Rice, who wrote and directed a full-length video on the park back in 1992, recently discovered some additional never-before-seen footage in his basement. Although it is a silent film, the footage is in color and captures many different aspects of Fontaine Ferry, including rides, shows, the pool, and even the parking lot. It is believed to be from the 1940s.

The film has been transferred to DVD by Tim Young Productions and is now in the very capable hands of the Frazier International History Museum. But if your chances of making it to the exhibit before it closes on September 8, 2009 are slim, you can enjoy the newly discovered footage online compliments of local news station WHAS11. Check it out! The station also put together a great two-part story on the history of Fontaine Ferry in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the park's closing, which was marked on May 4, 2009.
